Last week we left Ezekiel packing his belongings as he prepared to go into exile, but before it really happens he again shows the Jews by stark images what is going to happen to them! In chapter 14 God tells Ezekiel just how deeply the Jews have rejected him through their idolatry. So much so that their judgement is inescapable! In chapter 24 sadly Ezekiel's wife dies, and God asks Ezekiel to do something that I am sure was very hard for him. He asks him not to mourn her as he normally would. God uses this to show Jerusalem that they will lose everything, but will have no opportunity to mourn. As we do this week's reading it's easy to get bogged down in the sadness of what happened. But what we need to remember is that God gave them chance after chance after chance to repent and they rejected Him over and over and over! God does the same with us, but one day, we will all face a reckoning, and then, judgement will be inescapable.
