Questions:

Last week I mentioned that Jeremiah is often times referred to as the weeping prophet because of the seriously severe nature of his prophecies and how negatively they were received by the people of his time.

I would also say that he could be known as the lonely prophet. Jeremiah had few friends, but even worse as we saw in chapter 16 he was commanded not to marry or have children! It's no wonder that sometimes Jeremiah cried out to God that it was too hard!

But despite that he continued to persevere and I am personally glad that he did. It always amazes me that God uses every bit of his word to reach his people. One of the most important passages that God used to lead me to have a personal relationship with Him is found in Jeremiah 31:31-33. I think that this is a perfect of example of God using a prophecy both as a promise to the people of that time, and also as a promise to all of us still to come. I think this passage is a beautiful description of how God comes to live in each of us when we receive the Holy Spirit, and I know that it changed my life!
