Continuing on Proverbs this week you may be finding it a little hard to follow along, after all it seems like so many disjointed thoughts strung together. However I think that's where we get confused. As we mentioned last week proverbs is a series of wise thoughts and sayings mostly expressed in two lines, but sometime more.
So rather than trying to connect the dots between a verse about someone who is lazy, and then someone who is a fool, and then someone hiding from his quarrelsome wife (or husband), try to look at the individual proverbs.
As you go through the proverbs if you see one that really speaks to you, write it down, with chapter and verse, and if you can, memorize it, and watch God use it in your life. You may find a number of them like that. One I particularly like is Proverb 23: 16 and 17. Think of me when you get there this week!
Finally, some of these may seem dated, talking about sheep, goats, and Kings, but remember the context of who wrote these, and when. Laura had a good insight this week when we talked about the proverb that says it's better for man to sleep in the corner of the roof than with a quarrelsome wife. If you remember from the story of Rahab many houses had flat roof where they may have a small garden or storage, or even might sleep on a cool night. So in that context the proverb doesn't seem so far fetched.
So as you read this week, read carefully, this book is full of wall plaques and pearls of great price. I am sure you will find one just for you.
