Questions:

We are going to be going through the whole book of Joshua this week so hold on tight.

Joshua is one of my favorite characters in the Bible because of his courage and faithfulness to God and his plan.

The only time he falters that I can see is after the defeat at Ai because of Achan's sin and Joshua questioned God's purpose in bringing them out of Eygpt rather than questioning his people's obedience! However given my own feet of clay I find that one slip as being amazing in his long life.

The book of Joshua is in many ways one of the high points of Israeli history. However as you are reading you will also see the seeds of their future destruction.

Notice how many times verses like Joshua 15:63 appear where it says that they could not "dislodge" or overcome all of the people they were ordered to and "allowed" them to continue to live with them.

In chapter 23 Joshua warns the future leaders of the country of this potential for destruction in verses 6 through 8.

The book ends with one of the most stirring and famous verses in the Bible 24:15

"But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the river or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living, BUT AS FOR ME AND MY HOUSEHOLD WE WILL SERVE THE LORD."

This is a choice we all have to make, not just when we accept Christ as our Savior but also everyday when the "gods" of this day tempt us to turn away from the one true God.
